Well some good news and some bad news! Three weekends ago, I got the car running and took it for a few test drives with no problems. Then it snowed for two days, closing the roads. Used the car to get to work on Wednesday, the 3rd and it seemed to run pretty good. On the way home, all of a sudden it made a very loud screeching noise and it died. Got the transmission in neutral and coasted to a wide spot in the road and called for a tow truck to get me the last 14 miles home. At first I thought the fan or water pump had developed a problem but the engine runs fine. Once I got the transmission out of the car, found it was locked up, neither the input nor the output shaft would rotate! Found a good manual transmission shop and took it in for repair. Got a call today from the shop saying that someone in the past had taken it apart and messed it up with wrong bearings!! Should get it back this coming Friday! With our President's Day Holliday on Monday, I should get the transmission back in and bolted in place. I've been designing a new rear transmission mount that I think will be better than the cheap one I had before. Using a pair of Jaguar XJ6 motor mounts at a 90 degree angle to keep it from vibrating too much.

Today I put new SuperPro SPF2092BK bushes on the engine steady bar. Yesterday it was new engine mounts (I used Landrover V8 ones) and the day before that a new bearing and brushes in the 11AC alternator. Better leave the car alone for a few days and watch the Americas Cup.

Good news, got the transmission back from the shop on Friday and spend the weekend (3 days including President's Day on Monday) installing it, making the transmission mount and putting the puzzle all back together. Drives pretty good though I do have some vibration from the center mount for the driveshaft (will have to do a search on that subject, remember there was a thread on it in the last year or so). I'm thinking I might just go the route of having a new one piece driveshaft made at a local shop. I had that done years ago in a XJ6 I converted to a manual shift (using all Jag parts from other cars), worked out pretty good, I may still have that driveshaft in my garage! Drove the P5 to work this morning and it went pretty good!

It is with great sadness that i have today due to long term ill health reasons sold my beautiful Rover P5B to a loving new owner who will this time be a lady.
I have been unwell for some years now since retiring from the Army and at this time things are not getting any better for me albeit in time i hope things will improve. I took the decision last year to start selling off my private collection which included my concours Aston Martin, my Mini Cooper S, my Brabus Smart car, my luxury day van, my Rolls Royce and my P5B.
The Rolls Royce is now the last to go and i am certain she will sell very soon as she is beautiful.
It took me over 25 years to find my Rover P5B and i have cherished every moment of ownership with her and she will continue to be loved by her new lady owner as she has been under my ownership and the 2 previous gentlemen owners before me and if continued to be loved and pampered she will go on for another 48 years i hope.
Its been an honour to own her and also to be part of this community but for now i am signing off as an owner albeit i will continue to pop in and out online but for now for me its a dream story which has now come to an end. I am very saddened but it is what it is.
Best regards, Brendan

Wow, that was unexpected. Can’t be easy giving up your passion like that, I know I would be lost without my cars. I wish you all the best for the future

Sorry to hear and read of the repercussions of your ill health Brendan. You certainly had quite a collection of desirable and pristine classics in your garage. It's unfortunate that you're unable to keep one of your cherished vehicles to enjoy experiences and motoring tales. I know I'd be lost without the diversions that are part and parcel of classic vehicle ownership and care. Take care.

Cheers guys.
Hopefully once i have had another operation and some post op treatments i will recover again albeit like the last time i was off line for about 2 years so this is why i decided to sell off all my collection as i could not bear the thought of them just sitting there untouched and Joanne did not want to be left with the burden of them and what to do with them should my health get a lot worse than it already is at the moment.
Its been a really tough decision but i know deep down its the right decision and the cars will continue to be loved and pampered by their new custodians. I have been tinkering with cars since i was a young lad and now at 52 its been a great hobby and i have been lucky to have been able to own pretty much every car on my wish list plus some others i never thought i would ever be able to afford to own namely my Aston Martin, Bentley RT Mulliner, my Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2 and of course my P5B.
I fully intend to return to the fold but i need to get better first before i can do that.
Best regards, Brendan

I do hope you get better, and even if you dont get back into p5 ownership you pop up from time to time on here. We are all interested in the restoration of vehicles but sometimes their custodians have to undergo a bit of restoration and repair as well and Im sure we'd be pleased to hear reports on how you fare in the future. All the best Kevin

Best wishes for the future Brendan. Ownership of these vehicles does require ongoing attention to them, so I'm glad you have found new reliable custodians.

Thanks again guys. My P5B is now with her new loving Lady owner and she is absolutely thrilled and emotional too as she has always wanted one so i am pleased i have played a part in making her dream come true regarding owning a beautiful P5B of which she now has and can cherish and enjoy.
My loss is her gain and i am pleased for her and my car.
Cheers all for now. Brendan.

Why it’s a brand new motor car........are those JRW panels you’re using?

Yes they are brand new panels, but they do need a lot of fitting work to adapt them to the car’s particular construction. I had intended to do another update on progress to the left side of the car, but I got in a mess and managed to just repeat the last update.🙄. I’ll have another go later on when I can concentrate more. Sorry to everyone, but I’m not that computer literate.😬

Right, let’s have another go.....We have now finally switched to the near side of the car. We have finally fitted, but not fully welded, the near side sill and replaced a long section of the ‘A’ Post where water had over time rotted the door pillar and inner panels. Further replacement was necessary to the small section of metal that surrounds the end of the drain exit in front of the wipers. A lot of bits to be made here as it’s only the larger pieces that are available from JRW. Really feel we’re getting somewhere now.☺️

I posted a couple of days ago about interior wiring loom which I am reinstalling. The only photo I have is this: The wire to the front door switches is taked to the inside of the 'A' Post, as shown. But how does it get from the lowest point shown here to inside the lower post at the switch?

I have to own up, that the welding is the skill of my pal. If it weren’t for him I’d be in a bit of a mess!😬. I always thought that honesty is the best policy and not to take credit for the work of others. I leave the welding to him.😄
