Thanks John. I fitted the plate today and all lined up perfectly. It looks the business. It will probably look much the same in July 2008, but will we!!

As the numberplate images have not exactly set the forum alive with comments, I don't think I'll bother to upload any "on the car" images!!!

I'll get over it John, but I was expecting someone to point out something wrong with the job even though it is as close to perfection as is humanly possible. The main problem will be keeping it from getting wet but I might just put the old one back if there is more than a 5% chance of rain in July 2008 which is the next scheduled outing.

Strictly the numbers should either be affixed directly to the backing plate or pressed into it - is this what you wanted to read??? Some dealers and owners also fitted the plate as you did so it is authentic even though not original to your car so it could be even Concours It looks perfectly OK to me though

That's more like it and you are absolutely right Phil. The holes for the removed white plastic numbers of the donor car lie beneath the stuck on plate but I couldn't source any new numbers/digits so decided to go for a well made pressed Ali plate. I used the original holes to run some adhesive through to the back of the new plate to stop it blowing away on a windy day!! I rather like the effect of the polished edges on both plates. Unfortunately, the original plate was removed prior to June 1980 when I bought the car so I don't know what the original looked like.

All this about problems with suppliers is very interesting. I am going to order a load of panelwork, but after this I am not so sure. Who ELSE can you get body panels from, although I would imagine they all come from the same source ? Had similar problems with a south London supplier who advertises in Take five over an upper ball joint boot. Hole in the middle was too small, and I didn't see why I should cut/file it. Similar exchange, but over the phone. I sent it back, and suprise suprise..............he never recieved it Takes the p**s with his prices anyway, and after that, plus his poor attitude, I will NEVER use him again.

Smallfry,I can understand how you feel. These suppliers are ok when you order stuff, pay wads of cash and take delivery. They are not so good when you have to return items and try to get your money back. I also agree that the customer relations skills of many of the WELL KNOWN suppliers leaves a lot to be desired. I do believe that the service provided has deteriorated over the years as I used to have no problems with the main supplier many years ago when I was a frequent customer. I have also used Past Parts for brake supplies and even they managed to loose a rear wheel cylinder sent for resleeving. They did eventually supply a replacement and refund my money but only when the Royal Mail presented them with the electronic proof of delivery. I am now trying to get Royal Mail compensation for the £20 basic price of the new blank plate which allegedly did not get delivered but I will still be £15 (75% on top of the cost of the item ) out of pocket for the VAT and P&P ( I have also had a lot of hassle sorting it out). Fortunately, I will not need any panels or big stuff from a supplier so any other minor items I need I will get from EBAY or alternative suppliers.I will do my very best to avoid the two big suppliers unless I have absolutely no alternative. You would be surprised how many panels appear on EBAY from abandoned resto's etc so you could add P5 to you EBAY alert list and you will be advised when anything turns up.

I've dealt with Paul Hunt at 'Power Track' now for many braking parts , not just for Rover, and so far I cannot fault him.

Unless you are registered for VAT you should be able to claim that - I thought min comp was over £30 these days.
I always return goods Recorded Delivery its safer

Yes. I made that mistake when I sent the front pads that didn't fit back to that ebay crowd. Not recorded delivery & they "didn't" arrive. Now waiting for the Royal Mail to get back to me after applying for compensation after which I'll still be out of pocket as £30 max won't cover it. That's probably lost in the post too. As regards the reg' plate, I always feel a standard size narrow plate looks lost in the generous space Rover provided though the finish on them is very nice. And as regards suppliers, it's very annoying when suspension bushes (not P5) you've just paid £10 each for appear on ebay at a 99p start price for a pair (no reserve)......from the same supplier. I doubt they'll reach the retail price.

Yes Ebay has its use but some bidders get carried away and pay over the top and then there is carraige which varies tremdously.
One Ebay is not much use for is when you want the part now, its always best to keep in "the part you may need sometime" but this can get very expensive.
Apparntly postal comnesation is set at 100 times the 1st class rate 32? so it £32 but not much consolation - and of course same thing can happen with Ebay.
We have lost numerous letters and the parcel in Royal Mail

I doubt they'll reach the retail price. They didn't. £1.79 for the pair & £3.50 postage. To be honest, I don't see the point of putting them up that low if the retail price is £10 per bush, as it's not even enough for a pint (except in Wetherspoons). Certainly doesn't seem like good business to me. After paying £51 for 4 just 5 days ago from the self-same source, it leaves a very nasty taste in my mouth. And I missed the auction. You live & learn. It won't happen again.
