I need some advice. My drivers door window winds down on its own - very annoying If you wind it up the winder handle will turn on its own and the window will gradually drop. I know I need to remove the door card etc to expose the winder mechanism but I wonder if something is broken or just needs adjusting? Any ideas? Thanks

I would imagine that the circular tension spring is broken or disconnected or somesuch. If so it seems that winding the window up would feel excessively easy. It sounds as if it will have to be replaced with another spring anyway. Shouldn't be too difficult to do. I did one on our P6 recently which was pretty straightforward but I haven't had a P5 one off.

Is it a coupe? The wunding mechanism is notoriously weak and its likely to fail altogther shortly. Its not a difficult job unless you are not a multijointed midget with a vice like grip and no rust is present

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is a coupe by the way.
Will dismantle when I get a chance.
