Hi everyone, Just wondering if any of you have any experience of cleaning oily marks and general dirt off the door trims and door armrests/grab handles and front parcel shelf on your cars? If so, which products have you used? I want to clean my beige trim up (the drivers one is particularly badly stained) but I'm worried about using anything which may damage the vinyl. Also, the map pocket on my drivers door has lost it's 'tension' and just hangs down which is annoying - any suggestions for fixing it? Regards, Gavin

Hi Gavin, are you sure it's badly stained or is it badly worn? As for the map pocket you will have to remove the door trim/card. Behind it is the elastic belt that loops onto both ends of a metal rod which has triangular ends. The problem is water ingress affects the door card and will also decay the elastic which can be bought at many haberdashery outlets. Markets etc

Thanks Glenn, I'll take the card off and investigate... The door trim itself isn't worn - it's just got a lot of pily fingerprints on it over the last few years, especially lately when the a friend changed the front crank oil seal! So I guess some Swarfega or something should do the trick...

There are many degreasing products. The best one I find is petrol? It is an excellent de greaser but is not too aggressive I would put some lightly on a cloth and do a test area. Then wipe it of with a dry cloth the use a vinyl upholstery cleaner afterwards to clean and remove the petrol odour. You could also use the following companies products.... www.liquidleather.com/

I would be very careful cleaning Vinyl with any form of solvent or abrasive the top patern is not what goes all the way through it is only printed on the surface so you finger prints can discolour well into the Vinyl and be a perminant stain and you will not get them out Leather Soap and water is good or a Vinyl cleaner Good Luck.

'Er indoors uses green Swarfega on the oily washing & it works well so I would imagine it will work on your trim without damaging it at all.

Hello everyone
For oily fingermarks etc in vinyl i use white spirit, not as aggressive as petrol scrubbed with an old toothbrush to get in the grain (DO NOT put it back in the bathroom you will get into trouble) Then use household polish to return sheen.
