Hi, I just wanted to know are you able to remove the gearbox tunnel, only the core plug has gone and a friend of mine suggested my removing this as he has done on other cars and this might well help me. I know that i can remove the manifold etc, and get to it that way, i just wondered if this way was possible......... Many Thanks Gareth

I can't see how removing the tunnel will give you easy access to the core plug under the exhaust manifold Gareth

Hi, i know iam being a pest and iam getting confused which for me is easily done . I went away and thought about this in my own little way. To get to one of the core plugs i remove the exhust manifold... i get that. But the one behind the fly wheel how do i get to this...... Thanks again

The one behind the flexplate requires either the removal of the engine or the transmission. Personally I would remove the tunnel, then the gearbox followed by the bellhousing converter and flexplate but there are others who would suggest removal of the engine (or engine/transmission,) it's all a matter of preference. If you intend replacing all the coreplugs you may find it easier to remove the engine to improve access, but I'd do all of them with the engine in-situ.

Having removed a gearbox with the engine in place, I would not be against removing engine and box complete.
Once you take into account the fiddle factor you may be saving yourself time. also gives you an excuse to be getting on with other wee jobs in the engine bay.

I have thought it worth the hassle of trying to remove them separately. On your own its far less trouble in my opinion
