Many many many years ago I used UHT brand aerosol vinyl colour spray on the arms of an old sofa. The arm were black vinyl and we had reupholstered the fabric seat cushions and back. The colour was light brown over the black. We used it for maybe 8 years then gave it to friends. It never wore through the colour.
About the same time I changed the arm rests and door trims (cards) of a GS Citroen from red to brown and it never wore through while I had the car.
The vinyl must be perfectly clean before you start. I'm not sure that I'd use it on car leather though. Furniture leather on the other hand has plastic coating on the surface anyway so probably isn't that different from vinyl.

Whatever you use Vince if the leather is hard as most seats are! getting on in years you will find crease marks after being used Leather has to breath and basicly you are spraying paint on a porous surface some products are kinder than others the one I used was Acetone based but it is still a paint

Back in the days when connolly's existed in wimbledon you could get a re connolising kit for your interior which would bring it back to nearly new looking.
The final stage was applying the colour/laquer which was clearly, by the smell, suspended in cellulose thinners.
You could brush it on and the kit came with 2 x 500 ml cans of colour.
I did the whole interior once and then about 10 years later redid the front seats again with the remains of the original kit which even though it had dried out, I revived by adding cellulose thinners to it.
It was a great result with no brushmarks and only took about a day to do the whole interior (after it had been cleaned).
If you can get a good (proper) leather renovation kit, do that rather than spray plastic on it.
It seems that the only kits available now are for spray application of the colour and you only get one small bottle of colour.
If anyone knows where old style connolly kits can be obtained please let me know.
