Hi all,
I've been a member of both the club and the forum for a couple of years now but haven't been able to 'fathom-out' how to add photo's to my posts until recently...and as I'm now sitting at home twiddling my thumbs (as I'm sure many of you are too!) I thought I'd take the opportunity to post up a couple of pictures of my pride and joy - my recently returned to the road, 'M'-Reg, Burnt-Grey over Silver-Birch, P5b Coupe'!!!
I bought her via the 'Car and Classics UK' website, from a lovely gent in Co-Clare, Ireland - who delivered her to me back in early January, 2018.
She had a very low mileage with full history etc and was amazingly solid and original - having been Ziebart undersealed from new and mechanically extremely-well maintained, despite having been off the road for many years.
Her paintwork was completely original but VERY worn/ tired and well past its best...so I've since spent the last two-years giving her a bit of a make-over...a full respray & thorough sorting-out of the interior etc, etc and whilst I still have a few jobs to do to finish her off - namely fitting new door rubbers, boot-seal rubber, windscreen rubbers etc, on the whole she's pretty-much done now...
She was ordered new by P&O, for their then Director of Finance, through Henlys via a brokerage in Berkeley Square, London (H.E. Bentley & Partners) in late June '73...she was registered TAN452M in Twickenham and delivered on the 1st August '73 - complete with laminated windscreen, Webasto sunroof, radio (with rear Vol control), dipping rear-view mirror, heated rear window etc...her Chassis No: shows she was the 12th from last car made...oh, and she still has a lovely 'complimentary' sterling-silver P&O 'Canberra' key-fob attached to her keys, as a nod to her past!
P&O kept her until 1976 when she was sold to a businessman in Ireland and exported - he kept her as a 'Sunday-toy' until 1987, when she was sold again to the guy I bought her from...
Amazingly for me, the first 'P&O owner' lived in a large corner house, on Pine Walk, Carshalton...quite-literally 400-yard's from my parents house at the time - I can vaguely remember seeing it driving by occasionally when I was a young boy...mostly because at the time, my dad had a 'K'-Reg, Silver-Birch over Burnt-Grey Coupe' too...so I would have been very-much 'on the look-out' for them! )
I hope you like her!
Guy.
