Hi, Organizing and timing the restoration thats about to start (Yes I know...it will skid from day one, but now sounds good idea), I have some questions about the interiors. I decided, and already got the product, to use the Liquid Leather kit in my buckskin seats. Going to take off the seats. The front ones I realized its only 4 bolts, but the rear one, easy? Due to the the impact that the car suffered the drivers seat is curved to the right side. Any bets on what is probably twisted in the seat frame, or broken ? The carpets, I was thinking in washing them. Any special care about it? Does they have those little washing instructions? Dont really want to mess around with the washing temperatures and finishing with shrinked carpets. The non-removal carpets and those things you call furflex or turflex.... are going to be cleaned in-situ. They are really dirty and was thinking of using a industrial cleaner from 1Z (einzet) that can be diluted to be applied. My fear is that is too strong and that leaves an uneven look. As anyone has done a similar job? Finally the roof trim, can it be washed? Sorry the long and not so interresting subject, but every info that prevents me of doing really stupid things is usefull, and also because Phil needed posts. Members only posts Thanks Miguel

Thanks Miguel - I can confirm that washing the carpets or even getting them damp with so called dry foam cleaners WILL shrink them badly. Your industrial cleaner sounds the better option so try it somewhere where it may not show so much. Alsor clean and still uneven washed carpets 2 sizes too small does not look good and neither do dirty ones. They will also have faded anyway - I personally think both colours used on the P5B were terrible and nowhere near as good as the range on 3 Litres
The headlining is really durable and can even stand cellulose thinners in badly stained areas so any heavy duty detergent will do them good. Try a small area first

Personally I would not use anything but detergent and water on the headlining (or any of the vinyl interior) Miguel before making a new one I tried cleaning my old one and from my own trials I know the headlining will suffer if you use any solvent based products it's only printed Vinyl two things will happen you will end up with a white patch and it will stretch where cleaned! I tried most things cellulose thinners, 2k thinners, acetone, petrol and ammonia to name a few, none of them worked getting stains out. I agree with Phil on the wool carpets don't get them too wet

Miguel, a tip for the leather. Put lots and I mean lots of leather feed on the seats and leave it for a week to soak in. Ideally if you can, cover the seats to ensure maximum absorbance. The front seats can be covered with those thin plastic seat covers you see used in workshops. Before and after pics are required... along with an article for Take Five

I thought about that (feeding the seats), because they are too dry. But they are too dirty also. If I feed them before the cleaning, the dirt will be easaly removed after? The process I thought about the carpets (because its wool), was to spray the cleaner, let it work, and then with those vacuum cleaners with water try to remove the dirt. This will leave the carpets a little wet, but not dump. In Portugal it will dry quickly. All the work I intend to post here (now a little undecided in what area: members only or general? I´m a defender of the free info...). I´m also working in construction of a blog about the car work. Important is a lot of pictures. This turn the discussions much more "live". Thanks Miguel

To clean the seats use a proper leather cleaner first. You will be surprised how dirty the seats will be, then fedd and feed again!

The furflex isn't too difficult to remove, its fixed with staples under the trim so could be removed for washing though I suspect would probably disintegrate in places in some part of the process (it may do so washing in-situ). But by the same token it's not that expensive & you could replace it with new product. Once the seats are out it's easy to remove other parts of the trim (including the 'non-removal' carpets ). I recall that when re-fitting you have to keep closing the doors to make sure it's following the door correctly rather than re-stapling it then closing them to discover that it's all over the place, as I did 16 years ago. You can also pick a different colour as everything matching can be a bit samey. I used Cinnamon which compliments the Buckskin nicely.
