Picked up my coupe from the garage this morning after its MoT only to be whacked up the back on the way to work.
The astonishingly dim woman Citreon hatchback driver was apologetic but asked to send her the bill instead of making a claim... no chance.
Anyway, the bumper is just bowed in a bit... not too bad at all. Anyone know if it is worth getting repaired or buying a new one? (£450 from Wadhams !!)

That's a "Br" it depends on how bad the bumper is dented it may come out if it is the radius it will knock out then it's a case of once the chrome is removed silver soldering to fill in the dents grinding then polishing more if needed till correct copper plating and then chrome plating If you have a good solid bumper it will be worth the effort and will fit better than the pattern one I have not seen them but I have been told the distance between the rear wings and the bumper is greater than normal perhaps one of the members who has fitted one will be best to ask To plate your bumper will vary so best get a quote will be around £180 + or - I just read your bumper is bowed that's not too bad a good repairer should get it out as long as the bumper is sound I would think there is a kink somewhere and check the bumper irons chassis leg etc etc

If anything got damaged i would think it would be her car. Personally i would go for the £450. Sorry to hear of the incident btw.

Bad luck - the chassis legs should be OK if not already compromised by corroision nut check carefully. What should have happened is that the spring steel mountings may have permanently deformed as designed so you may need these as well as new bumper.
Restsr betterment claims though - this is where you need good brokers/insurers. You are required under your insurance terms to notify yuor insurers as when the other gets your bill they may not pay up

I would go for the the new bumper. You should also claim for the other chrome work to be re-plated as it will be dull compared to the new rear. don't forget the over riders too At her insurance expense of course Colin

As its always the labour that costs insurance companies dearly................I would think they will be VERY happy to get away with £450 if you offer to fit it yourself.
Once you have the cheque in hand, unless you have a top notch car, I'm sure you will find the damage isn't that bad after all...................Mind you, it IS a good opportunity to to get the most expensive resto part for nowt !
Maybe we should all ram the back of each others cars ?

When a modern small Eurobox driver decided she wanted to be in the space I was driving in, in my 3 Litre Coupe on a busy island several years ago, her car scored a slight line down both doors on that side and made a corrosion area fall out on the rear wing leading edge. Neither of us were going fast and I barely noticed it happen
Her car was a complete mess round the front wing/bumper and they were even pressing on the tyre and also smashed the indicator and headlight. I got a quote from a local garage and negotiated a cash settlement with her insurers and rectified the damage myself as part of a general tidyup.
Its ready again for another one - that's the problem when they are used regularly.
