Hi all, do I recall someone asked where the location of this RTC was? Owner trying to replicate a scene from Goldfinger albeit not in the grounds of Pinewood Studio and no big mirror. LOL

I have been having a bit of fun trying to work this one out.
How do we know it is Wigan Lane, Wigan, the A49? Having taken a virtual drive I cannot see the resemblance. The road in the photo is narrower and Wigan lane wide and leafy.
Even taking into account demolition works there are some distinguishing building features, window design, old school house, square drain pipes and windows where the car is sitting.
I definitely think it is a North East (Lancashire/Liverpool area). A few clues which point to the photo being the north east of England are the Blackpool/Preston registration number. The Double Diamond beer sign (pub or off licence, I can't make out the wording).
I found a few references to Finch batteries (42 Prescot road, Fairfield Liverpool and 74 west street, Crewe (news paper advert from 1974) before my time but would appear to be a regional business rather than a national one.
Passed a few hours, I do like a past and present so would be good to try and pin point the original location.

Colin I also wanted to trace the road as I have a canvas of the picture as I mentioned earlier and thought about calling Finch batteries, they still exist with a telephone number in Liverpool, 01512 638164. Sill got to call them though

Wigan Lane 2020Wigan Lane LargeHi Colin bud. It's not Prescot Lane. I already went up and down there on google map. I attach a photo of Wigan Lane where the accident happened You can clearly see the old school. Click on Wigan Lane 2020 & Wigan Lane Large.

Got you now.
I started looking before someone posted the street name.
What threw me was that section of Wigan lane wasn't clear on the map. I followed it down on to central park way.
So the battery shop was number 23 Wigan lane on the corner of Douglas street.
Great way to pass the time though, maybe we could look out some other period photos and see if we can pin them down to a current street view.

Sure. When I went down Wigan lane it went into another road which was leafy. Before that it branched off to the right which was Wigan Lane. It does look like Prescot Lane though as the configuration is the same. The Finches battery in Prescot lane is a red herring as that is now a cafe if I recall. A bit of a Miss Marple moment.
