Evening, I have been meaning to ask this for ages. Is the triangular blank on top of the inlet manifold there for a reason? Also, should it be painted?
The rear heater valve that seizes. Can it be dismantled to renovate? It twists open and shut with the black button twist but I am worried about it leaking. What colour should it be?
I hope you are keeping safe and well. Thank you.

The rear heater valves are no longer available sadly so last year i removed mine and soaked it for a good week in white vinega and washed it out under hot water until all the crud came out of it and she opened and closed ok. I have had no issues with it at all and no leaks either. All i do is regularly open and close it and keep it fully open so the flow can go to rear heaters too which are fine. I actually overhauled the entire system with all new pipes front to back and its 100% now both hot and cold. Regards,

Hi GB the triangular plate is where the Otter Switch is fitted ( manual choke) if needed and "I" wouldnt bother trying to take apart and fix the Heater Valve ;-)

Hi Brendan, JohnnyA here, if u remember I been a member of the club for over 30 years and I recently asked you about the rear heater diverter. Thankyou very much I took your advice and soaked the 2 I have got in vinegar and managed to get 1 good one out of the 2 so seems to work ok and the knob seems to go up and down. Thankyou very much for that, I will hopefully get back to the car when the weather hopefully gets a bit better. May I ask you what type of brake fluid I should use nowadays? As I have told you the car has been off the road quite a long time, there is no fluid in it whatsoever and I have been overhauling different parts of the braking system. So my question is what type should I buy and is it as straight forward as 'dot4' .I would also like to know the full capacity of the system. . Many thanks, I hope you are well . . John

Straight Dot 4 - you will need at least a litre preferably 2 to flush out the old stuff properly. If its black the flexi hoses are degrading dangerously

John Hi John and it pleases me that my simple fix has also worked out well for you too my friend. Just keep turning the knob and pushing it up and down on a regular basis from now on and she should be fine all the time. I keep mine fully open as i want to keep the coolant flowing all around both heaters and as all my pipes are new there should be no issues or leaks ever again so i offer this advice too if you have not already done so pipes wise. As for brake fluid, same as what Phil says. A good quality dot4 will be good enough these days and most likely a lot better than the original stuff put in new and have it flushed through ever 2-3 years and every 1-2 years on the coolant side dependant on how many miles you plan doing a year in yours. Oil and filter EVERY YEAR though i say. Best regards,
