Changing the Power Steering filter is "last thing" on a lot of owners minds! judging by what I see in the way of crap inside some of the Hydrosteer boxes, a description would be "Black Gunge". When the box is running as it should be the return pressure from the box to the reservoir sits around 2-3psi if the filter is restricting the flow this can rise above the working pressure of the front plate seal which is MAX half a bar 7.5psi, this can invert the lip on the seal! the return pipe can also collapse internally again restricting the flow. So for the cost of a check plus filter change and an oil change it eliminates the worry
