Will the SD1 distributor replace the early P5B and would it be any improvement?

Will the SD1 distributor replace the early P5B and would it be any improvement? It's not a straight swap because of the distributor drive gear for the oil pump, and the early SD1 distributors were cr*p anyway, so personally I wouldn't bother.

If you want a simple, effective & quite reliable option & if your old dizzy is still serviceable then why not try a Velleman kit. I’m running one on my P5 & it runs miles better than on points & condenser. It still uses the points but there is no load on them, they just switch the unit. So far mine has been very good apart from it got too hot & shut down one day, but then it was mounted in a bad place. You can simply carry a condenser in the glove box & pop that back in if you have troubles........alternatively carry a spare unit with you as I now do.
You buy it in kit form & have to build it up yourself but at £15 a pop you can’t complain
