Is the fuel tank 562175 common to all P5Bs? I might need to restore or replace.

Eric, not sure on differences if any, but I have a tank from a MK3 if that's any help. I will check part numbers later just in case if I can find them.

The Mk2/3 tank will fit but does not have the spill return inlet the P5B one has. This is not required (or desired) with electric pumps

Yes I just checked the parts manual. the main difference seem to be the return line but although the drawing is not specific it does look like there is a small difference in the take points. I will treat this tank as a 3ltre only. It was a good job there was a query on this, thank you one and all for the observations.
