i would be very grateful if anyone could advise me on where I could get a pair of front brake calipers for a 1969 P5B. They are Girling make.Or alternatively where could I them refurbished.

JRW offer them, I think on a service and exchange basis. Alternatively, I think Gordon at Roverpart of London may well have them in stock. Otherwise, try Ebay as there are often some available there. If using new old stock items, just be aware that the rubbers may well have degraded over time, even out of use; personally I would give them a thorough check before using.

If yours are in useable condition probably best to have them refurbished or do it yourself. Never split the caliper, but before you take the pistons out give the casing a good clean and possibly paint. Use a foot pump to ease out the pistons, get some stainless steel pistons and fit new rubbers and job done !
My brother has used Past Parts in London for brake refurbishments and has been pleased with the results.

I have just sent mine off to shop.roverp6cars.com as they were recommended on this forum. They are a lot cheaper than JRW and Mark has a good reputation. His first car was a P5B.

I don't know where this myth of not splitting the caliper came from, but it is a myth. It is very hard to get the pistons in and out and the rubber boot seated with its (now unobtainable) seating ring. The caliper splits easily and makes access to the pistons a piece of cake. To reassemble there is nothing challenging about it. There is an O-ring to seal brake fluid between the to halves, but fitting it is simple as.
New boots, seals and pistons are obtainable from JRW (at least they were 7 years ago).

Although it does not give the reason why.
