For long enough I've had a smell of fuel in the boot of my P5B saloon I mentioned it on here and got a lot of advice which I'm grateful for, I had the fuel tank, fuel lines checked and double checked, and found nothing. The smell still persisted. Anyway to cut to the chase so to speak I've had the petrol tank coated with a fuel resistant lacquer and that seems to have solved the problem. Smell now gone I will see if this is a permanent solution or not over the next few months, lets hope thats the end of my smelly boot.

Hi I have the same problem.
Which lacquer did you use, and did you paint the entire OUTSIDE of the tank or coat it on the inside ?
Kindest regards, Christopher Oslo Norway

It is one thing having a dodgy petrol tank on the outside of the car temporarily fixed with urethane paint, but quite another when the tank is inside.
I think I would be looking for a new or good used tank.

Hi this is a new tank that's fitted as the original one was damaged. I take your point and will be keeping a close eye on the problem the tank and indeed the whole fuel line has been looked at very closely and no leak was found

Hi Christopher it was the outside of the tank that was coated with a fuel resistant lacquer. It was done on the advice of the repair shop where I have some of my maintenance done after they could not find the fault even after an extensive search. It has solved the problem but I will be keeping a close eye on things as you never know what will happen. I'm satisfied that its OK now but if it develops again I think I will have a smoke test done on the tank. Any further developments I will report back to the forum. The name of the lacquer I'm not sure of but it is a fuel resistant one that is the important bit.

Good evening and thanks for your advice. I hope you will have a trouble-free tank. As long as no vapours are released, it should be safe.
