Can anyone please tell me if the steering idler from Wadhams comes ready filled with oil? Their office is closed so I cannot ask them. I cannot see any oil in there but cannot get more in though this may be due to the very small hole.

Does it have oil in it ? Just wondering as I have never touched mine, I checked it about 30 years ago and it was fine then. I shall be interested in other replies as it may be something to check this winter.

It should have oil in it - just unscrew the filler screw on top. No idea whether Wadhams one has any but I would still check it in any event Engine oil squirted in via an oil can is quite easily done

How much oil should there be in there? I can find nothing in the manual. I presume it should not be full to allow for expansion.

Just top it up till it comes out it's not critical I use ATF, if the seal is good, you won't have to do it for many years!

I fill mine with gear oil 140W. You can get thicker if the seals are leaking. In case anyone else does not realise this, any play in the idler will be transmitted to the wheels as steering play and hard to distinguish from TRE play.
