My MK111 P5 engine has developed a rumble. I am considering fitting a 3.5 v8 to it. I would like to fit power steering and ZF4HP jaguar gearbox. Any advice on the pitfalls, or problems.? The engine bay has enough room.

Not a problem Nick if you have the skill set or know someone or some automotive business who can carry out this type of work. Fitting a complete front P5B subframe is the easiest option as the P5B suspension is also setup for the correct weight. There's a difference in the P5 6 cyl front spring rates or the front leaf spring adjuster (bellcrank) that has not yet to my knowledge been definitively identified. The MK3 subframe can be used (as I did) but requires some specific engine mounting and fabrication mods as do the spring rates. As for fitting a ZF automatic that's been done successfully by quite a few enthusiasts who post to this forum. Below my MK3 coupe receiving a freshening up. The 4.4 P76 engine has powered the car for 32 years and 300,000 kms. The original MK3 transmission can be used if upgraded to V8 specs. This unit fitted with a combo of BW40 & BW51 components for greater durability. The trans still retains the Factory rear pump. There's also plenty of room to fit a ZF4HP22 trans obviously with a modified rear mount.
