Greetings everybody
Faced with a total absence of voltage everywhere on my 1961 P5 LHD, I checked the starter solenoid main terminal.
There are 12.75V at the battery connection and its earth is good.
And only 0.9V at the starter solenoid main terminal.
Does anybody know where the heavy black cable from the battery goes on its way to the solenoid, and if it's in one piece or if there's some connection or terminal somewhere between ? I've been under the car and can't see where the cable runs after disappearing through a rubber grommet at the front of the battery tray.
For those who didn't see my introduction, the car used to run fine 32 years ago and has been stored in a dry garage. Can't see any trace of rodents anywhere (anyway they can't chew right through the cable itself, only the insulation)

On 3 Litre cars it travels in 1 piece from the battery up under the rear window and then down inside the car behind the rear seat and down the D post and along the sill tops under the sill tread plates and through the bulkhead. Note there should be GOOD earth straps from the body work to the front subframe and onto the engine and also from the subframe to the rear of the gearbox.

Thanks for the info Phil Wow, that's quite a complicated run, no wonder I couldn't follow it. But the essential info is that's its in one piece. Hard to imagine that years of static storage could shear it off somewhere in the middle, so next step : Check the continuity (ohms) between bodywork, subframe, engine, subframe/gearbox, right ? And if and when anything dodgy comes up, those earth straps. P.S. Now you've said it, I realise I should have done that before bothering people on the forum. Silly me... Cheers, Pete

Cheers, Pete No need at all to apologise for your posts - it what the forum is for and answers help others. I will be surprised if the main cable is damaged as the PVC covering is very tough (older versions were rubber/fabric which can degrade. If somehow the covering was breached acids could a corrode away the thick copper cores. This can happen inside terminals

I don't suppose someone has installed an isolator switch?
