I still cannot get my car to fie up with the new electronic distributor and matched coil. The supplier is saying it cannot be his new dizzy so I am opting to have my old dizzy rebuilt, so if the car then runs, it clearly IS his new dizzy!
I have found a rebuilder called Ignition Car parts ltd who are based in Basildon SS14 3DR which is only about 10 miles from me, so would be convenient.
Has anyone used them in the past for a dizzy rebuild?

Just out of interest what type of electronic ignition module are you having the issue with? If it a simple Petronix type, a clone or Powerspark module (that will drop straight into your current distributor body) then the issue has to arise from not comprehending the technical literature.

It was a complete new electronic dizzy with a Lucas module.
There was no technical literature to understand. Just a very tiny A5 sheet with details about how to connect the new dizzy. It has 3 connectors on the dizzy body and a 3 wire to 2 wire adapter with the 2 wires wires connecting onto the LT terminals on the coil.
The car has not run at all since fitting (and refitting) the electronic dizzy apart from one solitary detonation that literally exploded the front silencer.

Is this the distributor you have in hand. This Youtube video may also assist if you're not sure about how to find No.1 TDC on a Rover V8. The static timing on your engine may be different than the engine under discussion but it is certainly a viable starting point.

Sounds like the firing order is out. Typically by a whole crankshaft rotation. So back to basics, hand crank the engine with all the plugs removed until piston 1 is at TDC on the compression stroke. I bet you will find the rotor arm pointing elsewhere than the number 1 plug lead.

Hi, I had a similar problem. I found that under cranking, I was getting less than the 12v needed for the electronic distributor to function. I had to replace the +ve feed from the tacho to the coil to resolve the problem. Points are not as fussy about the supplied voltage compared to electronics!

You may see on another post that I got a reconned points dizzy from JRW and the car fired up 2nd turn of the key with just static timing and points gap setting, so clearly a fault with the "new" electronic dizzy and or coil and or instructions for installation.
Trying to get my money back from the supplier.
But big thanks to JRW.
