As I'm curious of Charlie origins, I've asked for a certified copy from the BMIHT. I was aware there wasn't that much information in it but anyway I've just got it.
And on the French certificate:
How on earth a car built on the 9 October could be registered on the 17 April before?  How a car registered in the beginning of 1968 (i.e. before September 1968 which begins the 1969 built year) could be given the 'G' letter which counts for 1969? Is anybody can help me explaining those discrepancies? Thank you soooo much!

The 1968/9 records would originally have been on paper and at some stage transfered to computor and that is probably where the error occured with the wrong year date being entered, also since the car was built the registration documents have changed. I have had my car for 49 years and started off with an old 60s style log book and have since had several updates. My most recent log book shows 'no previous owners' which I am not going to complain about. With all these changes errors occur.
You could check that the details on the identification plate are the same as in your documents, mine was 1 digit out and I had to get it altered.

I have a 1969 P5B LHD with chassis no. 84300183C If your letter "G"is for 1968, when what is the letter "C" suggesting ? I fear a little confusion between VIN and plate.
Relying upon James Taylor authority VIN beginning by 840, 841 & 843 was given to saloon cars, and beginning by 845, 846 & 848 to coupés.
Your VIN (from 843-00117 to -00234) is recorded by James Taylor as: 1969 3 1/2-litre Saloon Export, LHD, 118 issued.
Regarding the C letter the same source tells it was related to slight changes in the car evolution, C regarding the year 1969 since January.
Now regarding the plate, letters are simply related to the year the car was first registered. I don't know your plate and I know in Britain you can easily swap it. But my plate as it looks never changed as long as the car remained in the mainland and was given in 1969, indicated by the letter 'G' at the end of the numbers. Thus 'F' is for 1968 and I assume 'H' may be for 1970 if I'm not mistaken. You can find the explanation on the web. Hence as our mate lagain has just told us, my car was effectively built in 1968, but a mistake should have been done because 'G' being for 1969 the sale should have happened on the 17th of April 1969 and not 1968. BTW I was told (but I can't recall when, where and by whom - age is doing its mischief!) that the first owner was a gentleman living in the Isle of Wight, which looks matching with the then dealer being Steels Limited in Southampton.

I am very content with this information, for chassis no. 84300183C reflects what I know - my car is a 1969 Saloon, LHD, Export and is one of 118 cars built that year.
The letter C was valid from January 1969 and that makes sense for I see slight differences between early P5B and mine.
For instance, the type of gearbox in that I do NOT have the D1, D2 etc. and I do NOT have the round knob on the gearshifter with button sticking up.
I also do not have the handle on the lower parcel shelf switching between normal and reserve fuel supply, and the fuel filler hose have a metal contraption into which the fuel filler pistol fit.

I can't see in James Taylor 'The Complete Story' anything related to the disappearance of that fuel reserve handle. So you don't have any handle for that function do you? I'm very interested in that very detail: so can you use the whole tank with 63.5L including the 7L reserve can't you? |

The "T" lever reserve pull was continued until the end of production. I suspect over the years, many alterations have been made by owners. The original system works fine provided the tap is free and doesn't leak. Bear in mind that if you start running the tank low and using the reserve, you're more likely to pick up rust and debris. It's good practice to fit filters at the tank to prevent unwanted crud getting to the pump and causing more problems.

I assume filters were fitted to the tank weren't they?
My good mechanic has verified the tank inside: neither crude nor debris. I guess a new or refurbished tank was fitted by the last British owner, Jonathan Matthews, who did an extensive job to put back his car on the road around 2015-2017. See the last Take Five pp. 4 & 5.

No,there are no original filters at all until the inline filter after the pump. I've no idea if some sort of filter was fitted to the pick up pipe in the tank.

No filters in the tank, just the one in the engine bay before the carbs. If you ever fit an electric pump you must fit a filter before the pump as the electric pumps are far more sensitive to debris.
