Does anyone know if it possible to install a P5b 3.54 differential unit into a P5 MKII rear end housing? I just picked up an entire rear end from a P5B and would like to use the longer drive, if possible, without having to change the complete rear end.

I do know of someone who has done this - its a straight swap. the acceleration will be poorer especially if its auto

Phil,
Do you think that the trade-off of acceleration vs lower highway RPMs is worth it? The car has a DG automatic transmission.
Thanks,

Personally no!
The axle ratio was chosen to suit the DG box - even the engine had different camshaft to make full advantage of the DG box.
The one I know that uses the 3.54 P5B diff is a Mk1 manual
