;DGood - it looks messy at first but soon dries and goes dark grey. It really does work and better than the "leatherette" vinyl type originally fitted

Look's a great Job Davie. I hope you don't mind but I have to put this on the Duchess site. What type of grease did you use? and where did you get the Gators from. Was it JRW?

It Is like very thick tape with a rope feel to It which I think Is Impregnated with grease and Its very sticky. This keeps the leaf springs lubricated and when wound tightly round the spring also helps to stiffen the spring. Then the gators get wound on and secured with tie clips and this protects the Denso tape from drying out when exposed to the elements.

Really smart - really better grease for Chassis use is Duckhams Keenol - its really sticky and salr resistant.
The trouble is, its white and looks a bit of a mess!

Ok found a place to buy denso tape, Greese is no problem. you made the gators from vynal I presume Did you stitch on or just wrap around a few times. Couple of guys here stitched on inside out then pulled over on its self to turn right way out on the springs bit of a fiddle. how did you do it

I bought waterproof vynal as It's meant to be better than leather. The Denso tape Is very sticky so this helpes to hold material In place whilst you get the tie clips on loosley then It's just a matter off pulling the material tight and zipping up the tie clips.

Denso is certainly not like Duct tape as its impregnated with a semi fluid linseed oil based grease which gradually sets over about 20 years!.
Its used for protecting underground gas pipes etc from corrosion so perhaps marine merchants may stock this?

That is what my research indicated I called Denso (NZ) Ltd and they have a vast range of products when we waded though it all it appears the Denso tape you are referring to is called “Denso Petrolatum Tape” or “Denso Pet Tape” for short it is used by plumbers and gas fitters to protect Valves and connections that are to be buried to stop corrosion. Plumbers merchants sell it here. In 100mm wide by 10m rolls for $33.00 about 10 pounds. Not hard to get once you know what it is. Recommended grease here is a white lithium grease as used in marine applications as it is water resistant.

Duckhams Keenol is the stuff over here for the grease and the Denso is cheaper here as well

;)Denso is great on springs as it keeps out rust and condensation and reduces squeaks.
I did my brand new Wadhams springs 13 years ago with it and they are still like new underneath and were totally silent as the old springs had worn ridges in the leaves which causes knocking.
Sadly the weight of the car has as usual caused them to settle gradually and they are now well overdue for renewal/resetting

Marine grease, lithium based or lithium complex based, (e.g. Duckhams Keenol, Castrol LMX). Most if not all marine greases are white it is the lithium I think. What do you pay for Denso tape.
