Yes very nice - you have a Mk111 grille on it - the Mk1 is quite rare to get hold of these days as its even different to the commoner Mk2's.
I have seen worse wiring!

Hi Phil, A Mark III grill? How do the Mark I grills differ? Perhaps I should get the car dated. Did they ever make them in those colours by the way, or is it non-orginal paint Colin, yes that's right Pretoria; and yes I have hardly seen any. I did see a nice maroon 1961 3 litre at the recent "Cars in the Park" show (July), and a blue one the previous year. It's one of the largest shows in the Southern Hemisphere (2000 cars) - so I think they are quite hard to find if that is all that turned up.

The Mk111 grille had the large P6 triangular plastic badge - the Mk 1 had a small plastic one and a "ROVER" plate badge with lines on it - like the P4 The Mk2 had a similar but enamel badge.
It could well be the right colour scheme as the ;ate 50's had some startling colours

By the way - your car is certainly an early one - for more details you can obtain a Heritage certificate for a small fee - send me the Chassis number and I can check it out for a range of dates. Its was probaly made in 1959
It is NOT a good idea though to put such personal info on these sites

Oh yes, before I forget again. Does anyone know what the original purchase prices were on these cars? Secondly, did this model have a picnic tray in front - and what is this made of?
Thanks,

No picnic tray I am afraid - pices it depends on what market it was sold in. Get James Taylors P5 book but also see my direct e-mail and the thread 2 further down re the Ebay Mk2.
Your model is one of the earlier ones so - has it got wood trimmed door frames or round interior lights in the rear? These two date early Mk1's from later Mk1 ones

Yes - the door frames are wood all round. No round inside lights though.

Not one of the really early ones then as there were quite a number of detail differences eg vinyl trimmed door frames, one piece headliner with round rear courtesy lights and cheese grater dash board vents being just a few
