This one went to the restorers on Monday. She is basically solid but needs quite some work to get her where I want her to be. Are the wheel centres correct for a 1969 model? as the ones on the Duchess have the ship logo on them. The roof is also the wrong colour.

Glenn, if the wheel centres have the Viking ship on them they are correct. Should be in gold but now probably well faded. As far as I know all P5B's had this centre for the rostyle wheels. The roof should be Silver Birch, so what colour is it? It has obviously been resprayed as the Bordeaux Red lines are missing on the roof, and the coach line along the trim should be in Silver birch.

Yep, I know and agree with everything you have noted. The roof is a light custard colour (yuk). It is going to be resprayed silver birch (although I believe it was originally Bordeaux Red) and the coachlines duly returned. It is having a bare metal respray. I also have a plan to renew the sill trims which are missing, as I have a family member who owns a sheet metal company. I will keep you updated as I am taking a sill trim into them on Monday to have a look at fabricating new ones. The centre wheel trims in the photo are therefore wrong. ps. look at the state of the quarter panel trim and it's alignment. I have seen this on a few others I have viewed and can't work out why someone would put it on so badly. Plus finding the paint codes on this site has been a great help. Thank you ;D

As far as I was aware there was only one type of centres fitted throughout the P5B lifetime with the gold viking ship outline which as JoW says is often faded to silver - many other types will fit though

Glenn, I didn't like to mention the misalignment of the trim, but there could be two explanations. At sometime a s/hand wing could have been fitted, and because the holes for the trim were already there that could be why it's out of alignment. Secondly it could have had a s/hand rear door fitted, & the same applies. One or other will have to be adjusted by redrilling and then fitting the trim back so it's not so noticeable. I have the same problem on the one I have put back together, and next year I will re-align the door trim so it's not too far out. Doing the wing is more difficult because of the drillings for the side repeater.
