Dear all,
I recently bought a beautiful 1971 P5B but I was a little bemused by the lack of a taller gear for motorway driving. It only has three gears unless i'm missing a lever somewhere... I know the P5 manual had an overdrive lever on the steering column but no such bonus appears to be on mine.
If anyone knows of any modification I could do short of buying a whole new 4-speed GM box, I'd like to hear about it.
Many thanks and happy motoring,
Chris

Only three gears on your wagon, thats all there are! You can have a 4 speed trans fitted, usually the ZF or Getrag manufactured items. G. Whitehouse Autos Ltd in Birmingham were quoting £3560 (plus VAT) for supply and fitting a Jaguar XJ40 unit in recent "Take 5" magazines. Contact 0121 559 9800 for details or check out www.gwautos.com.

I know of someone that has some of the 2WD ZF 4 speed O/D autoboxes with the mechanical speedo drives in the rear tailshaft housing (as fitted to LDV V8 ambulances) if that's of any use.
