Hi everyone , You know how when you wake up next to the fat bird after a heavy nights drinking, how you feel you've done something really bad but not quite sure? Well last week I got a little sozzled whilst on e-bay and woke up the owner of a 1970 silver birch P5b coupe! Heres the fact's : she has no MOT , I never viewed the car, the e-bay photo's actually show the rust and to cap it all she's on the Isle of white!! the good news is that I didn't pay over book price for a poor condition one but now I'm going to have to find a decent welder in my area who has the facilities and the know how to repair my new baby, She's gone in all the usual places , the interior is knackered but I kinda love her already ( oh mummy please can we keep her? ) Now The wife has agreed me a budget I must get her assessed , Can anyone recommend a decent welder in the Kent south east London area? It would be much appreciated.

Your posting made me laugh, you should take up writing for a living As an avid Ebayer I fully understand what happened to you and I try to keep sober when I am using it especially near the end of auctions. Are you prepared to share the item number with us so that we can see the nature of the beast you now have total responsibility for !? I live in Devon so can't help you with your query but you will find plenty of help on this forum when you need it

P5's rust everywhere possible - I wish you good luck. The welding is the easy part its the fabrication of all the parts that are nor remanufactured after all the dismantling. then its all got to be put back togther again.
Bottom book price is a negative figure!

2 points; Does your wife know you wake up with fat women? And when you say you have to get her assessed-do you mean the car or your wife or the fat bird you woke up with?

Brave man!
The description of the quite was quite genuine and major surgery is called for to do the job properly. It could be bodged howeever as many have been. Both sideswill need doing and the rear outriggers and front scuttle are likely to be similar.
Its all saveable though as it does look complete.
Wadhams is going to get another customer soon as is David Green!
NB do not be tempted by the outer cover sills currentl on Ebay - they are useless apart from aforesaid bodge job - only Wadhams does the right ones inners/middles/outers as you will need all three plus inner & outer D post and probably A post panel nad D post catch plate
This is very typical of what is seen for sale - some even with MOT

scarlettwill Late last year October / November2005 decided to have engine and gear box out Due to the rear oil seal and had it overhauled Then January had a good look at it and started pulling it apart Got secondhand interior off David Green All re chrome off him bumpers, door handles, grill etc Then had a full respary with usual rot cut out new scuttles and window screens rubbers front and rear new door rubbers, rear shocks, and leaf springs, stainless exhaust, new chrome wheels, white walls ,new carpets, light fittings It wont be finished until Jan/Feb next year, but i don't care as its coming together now and looks good As priceyp5 says Just enjoy the bumpy road and just think of the end result Most of my gear came from David Green You will surprise what he has and has kept the price down I have a photo of before and after up to now if you want to see it let me know

I would say that your car is in a pretty similar condition to mine. At least your interior looks good. My p5 rusty bits are sills, inner wheel arches, d-posts, rear valance, door bottoms, I haven't had the front wings off yet but can see a previous repair and the A-post looks like it needs fixed too. The gear box and brakes were shot and both had to be overhauled at a cost of around £850-900. Like phils says all repairable. If you want to see a rusty p5 have a look at my album. photos.orange.co.uk/album/4438985Good luck. Colin

I have replied to your email willscarlett, and now I have looked at the advert. Looks like an honest seller anyway. Looking at the photos there is a lot of work to be done. The trouble with P5s is that it doesn't show much on the outside ! I suppose it depends on what you hope to acheive in the finished article.
Having looked at the pictures I would be interested to know what your approximate permitted budget is ?
Go on........don't be shy !

Hello chap. I know the feeling - did the same thing in Sept but not on E.Bay. It is in pieces already - all wings off / sills now replaced, inner, middle & outer / inner wings / rear valance / scuttle panel. I mean you name it & it rusts. I really did get a feeling of 'oh my god what have I got myself into!' We are making progress now and I hope to have it ready for paint after Christmas. Will post some more pictures soon or view it ongoing at www.huntandkeal.co.uk & jst click restoration icon. I would be happy to help in any way you may need. Good luck.

Ahhhh so is it you who throws the mail over my back garden fence ?
Come on, lets have the figure, I could do with a good laugh at someone elses expense. Looking at the photos i would guesstimate something like three grand for body repairs, plus paint.
I can sympathise with you anyway, also a first time father at 44 !
