:'(Author: Roy Fellingham Date: 1/5/2005 4:58 pm EDT I don't know how anyone else feels about this or even if they have an opinion but here goes.
Does anyone else feel a slight sense of disappointment that the original convertible P5 has left our shores for down under probably permanently? What makes it a real pity is that it didn't even get offered for sale within the club. I always hoped to see it (and maybe get some ideas!). Now its gone for a life in the sun, I'm sure it would be very difficult and utterly expensive to buy and ship back to the UK. A P5 icon gone forever?
Also IF the new owner should read this, please get in contact as I'm in dire need of lots of high quality pics. thanks

>:(Author: Phil - Nottingham Date: 1/5/2005 5:18 pm EDT It is disappointing but then it only appeared once? at Bowood House in 1997? so its hardly been seen in public anyway and this situation has been the case virtually since new.
The seats were the let down having been recoloured when reupholstery was called for

Whilst trawling through old posts, I came across this old thread. I remember this particular car as it was referred to in James Taylor's original Postwar P4 / P5 book, published in about 1981. The entry, in that book, relating to this car stated that it was last heard of in Torquay (Torbay) in the 70s. As I lived in Torbay and knew several Rover collectors, there was always the hope that it would suddenly resurface locally. That didn't happen. Then, one day in 1996, I saw it driving in Exeter, looking absolutely superb. I did a double take but it was definitely 500CBY. Presuming that the car was still listed as 'missing', I managed to get a message to James for his info., only for him to write to me and say that he was already aware that it had just been restored, and that the trip to Exeter was its first outing. And to think that I thought I had a scoop Anyhow, I didn't realise it was now down under.
