Hello - I am new to the board but have a question.
I am looking at a Rover P5 Mark III Coupe for sale here in Ohio, USA and was wondering if anyone could give me any idea of the general value or ballpark price for a car such as this in the USA? The price listed is $3800 US dollars (2136 pounds UK).
The car need brakes and a battery, but is said to run. The serial number from the car is listed as 00000084 out of 850 produced - what does that really mean? The owner has no other information other than that it is a left hand drive car with a V6 Buick Grand National 350 engine and Turbo Transmission 3-speed automatic.
Any advice here? Thanks to all.

Kevin,
First problem is that the Mark III has a three litre Rover Engine. If the car has a Buick V8, then either it's a conversion, or the car is a P5B. Not sure about the serial number, it doen't look right (I will need to refer to Taylor's book to check). The devil in the Rover P5/P5B is generally in the bodywork. Mechanically they are very tough. If the bodywork is rust-free and the interior and trim are complete, it looks like a reasonable buy (in the UK, no idea of the prices over the water). Without seeing the car, it's very hard to say if it's good value or not.
For a non-runner I wouldn't expect to pay that much. Check the bodywork, the A post and the sills and the door bottoms are a good place to start. If these are rusty, knock him down to $400 or walk away! The chrome pits, and can be quite expensive to replace.
You see .... if the bodywork is excellent, and you have two beatutiful new chromed bumpers, and the interior is unmarked ....
Caveat Emptor! Suggest you buy Taylor's book on the Rover P5, and go and see the car. Alternatively, take a punt on it, but not for more that a thousand bucks.
Good luck Grim

Excellent Grim - thank you for the generous info. The engine is actually a Buick V6 3 speed automatic, and the owner has listed that car as "modified". The Ebay Motors Auction number for this vehicle is 4576685938 if you'd care to see the photos. www.ebaymotors.com You may have to search for the number as a "completed listing" because the auction ended without any bids. Maybe the price was too high? Anyway, thanks again for the information and if you do get a chance to view the photos, I'd apprecaite your thoughts (and anyone's opinions) on the potential for the car. Thanks/Cheers! Kevin

Well, the listing photographs show a Registration Tag as M601866 still attached to the car in both front and back plate positions - for this Rover P5 Mark III Coupe.
Does anyone have information on how I find out more info about this car? Thanks from the USA

You should be able to get information from www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/They list the production details on all Rovers ever produced. You may need to call/search for the 'Production Trace Department'. HTH
