I find the same problem happens when hardly any one is logged in. I have to come of the site then come back on again. It doesn't happen all the time though

No it does not happen all the time but when it does during a posting twice its annoying - browsing back does not work either

From 'HELP'...
The too many connections error is designed to stop access to a server when the load is too high, to protect the server and the integrity of the data held within.
This "load" is based on a server wide state, not just that of your forum, so if you get the message, but you are the only one on line on your forum, it means the rest of the server is busy, not just yours.
Server loads are monitored, and if a server ever becomes too overloaded, the problem will be rectified.

Thanks for that explanation Keith, you learn something new everyday.

The Pro-boards srrver is inadequate then? Or already has been compromised by spam?

I have only just got access to Forum through my first laptop, but it is not an easy site to navigate through. There seem to be far to many sections. Keep it simple, like a P5 !

I said at the outset there was duplication and that it could be simplified. However, I was just glad that Dave & his son took the trouble to set the forum up and maintain it. I didn't think that pushing the issue waas the right sort of encouragement for them. Many thanks for all your work both of you, it is appreciated.

It was a dilemma - but I am aware the less popular P5 3 litre has its own place within the club. The P5B owners (of which I am one) far outweigh our 3 litre owners yet I feel they have and should be shown to have equal status . Also by giving each marque its own section an advantage is and will continue to be gained when you need to search for information.
Interestingly when I look and compare the number of posts for each, the P5B is at the very least double of that for the P5.
Proboards monitor their sites, so hopefully 'Too many connections' may become a thing of the past - noticed Phils message was last October. If anyone is concerned about the same thing as happened to Phil, when you type your reply press 'Ctrl and A' to select all. Then press 'Ctrl and C' which will copy it to your computer. If the site is unobtainable. leave it for a few minutes then open the reply window again and press 'Ctrl and Z' and your saved text should appear in the window.
HTH and thanks for your comments.

It seems OK now only the odd occasion - I think there are too many sections but its best for some segregation why not combine all except engines/boxes?
The oft advertised greatly improved search facilty should be promoted more - the same questions keep turning up

The problem would be much worse if you only had one category for P5 and P5B. Look what happened on the old Board where it ended up an absolute nightmare to search for anything and half the time no-one differentiated between P5 and P5B so we had ask each time what car was the query referring to. Questions were repeated far more often than on this site which made searching even more frustrating. I think the present set up is far better and if the search facility is used properly you do have a fighting chance of finding what you want. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who never look to see if a subject has been covered before and go in with the same question over and over again. This can be remedied by those who have good memories and can point them to the right thread.

Perhaps the search facility should be more prominent?

I have a terrible memory as to whether a topic has been covered before or not - I just hope I give the same answer each time!

Is this related to the timing of replies being out? I see I was suffering from insomnia or "sleep surfing" the other night. Why else would I be replying at 1.00am on a work morning? I thought it was 8.00 Sunday evening...

Timing has very little to do with it. Proboards is worldwide, so it never has a 'quiet' period.

Mytocon, Check the time zone setting in your profile. For the UK it should be set to GMT+0.
