Hi guys please help me i have been tring to adjust my boot lid for a whole week but just cant get it right . I have made the mistake of visiting gaydon motor museum on looking at the queens p5b i noticed how well the boot lid closed with just a touch it closed perfect with a flush and even panel gap it put mine to shame so decided to do something about it after spending all last week adjusting the catch i decided that the boot rubber must be the wrong one as it does not seem to compress enough to allow the boot to shut and finish flush with the top of the wings .So i ordered a new one from wadhams a still no joy it seems to fit best with the old rubber.the wadhams one is very thick. am i expecting to much or am i missing something obvious how well should these boots close and should the panel gap be even please help a very desprate man cheers Toby

If you've just put a new rubber seal on then it won't do what you want it to do until the rubber has compressed and taken a set. Both my P5 & P5B boot lids will shut with minimum of effort, by that I mean you can let the lid down to rest on the catch, and then just push it lightly to engage, but then both the seals are well worn and will soon have to be replaced.

As John says allow for the new rubber I had one off JRW when I first started my renovation no way would it fit so I think it got binned I then got one of Scott's and provided you fit it correctly it is very good just remember it lays more or less flat When done you should just be able to close the boot lid with a little pressure on the catch no need to slam

Some years ago I was at a car show and when I closed my boot the chap next door laughed and got all his mates to come and look ! It should close with the lightest of pressure and a click ! I would advise removing the rubber and with an assistant outside get in the boot with a torch and check that the gap is even. Unfortunately if you have a remanufactured rubber it will probably never close nicely again. I can not understand why when parts are remanufactured they are not done properly
