My radiator is leaking and I am weeping. Will a radiator from a P6B fit. The size looks the same allthough the mountings have to be modified. Anyone tried this ?

I do not know about the P6 rad but you can try some radiator sealer that is poured into the coolant and then the engine is run - its worth trying. Barrs Leaks is the best then perhaps Holts Radweld. If a seam is leaking its inlikely to work but these can be re-soldered. The P5B rad is noted for silting up permanently so watch the temperature gauge carefully

Whatever you decide to do, when you install a new radiator make sure it is absolutely clean on both the coolant section and the gearbox oil section. Either, you would probably have very unpleasant surprises with your gearbox, and some really costly and time consuming jobs around. Based on personal experience (see "sanded gearbox") By the way, very nice car, yours. Hopefully one day we meet on the continent, mine is 1970 too, green and white (non original colours).

Thanks for the input on this one. To madoxmic - Yes we might stumble into each others somewhere ! I am in the phase of judging the stability of the car - If it proves stable we will use it for longer runs.

I have traced a radiator NOS saying P5/P6 on a label. The sidemountings can be bent to fit both, I think. However the rearfacing piping that connects to a rubber hose that is mounted to the block between the carbs is missing. This tube is on my P5B and on my P6 as well. Now I wonder what is this tube for ?? As my radiator is leaking the coolant will very fast go below that level in the radiator (just checked : there is no coolant in the tube now) but the car drives as good as ever. Is this tube needed or ....

The small bore tube vents the water heated manifold and when it becomes blocked causes coolant loss which is often thought to be head gasket failure.
The spigot should be present on the rad

I drilled a hole at the appropriate place on the NOS radiator i found where the spigot should have been and soldered a piece of tubing into the new hole. Filled the point of drilling with grease both outside and inside before I drilled to avoid metal-cuttings to enter the radiator. Looks nice ! - Next step is to get some new hoses and install the radiator and hoses at the same time. Now I just wondered : When I take the oil-pipes from the automatic box off the radiator, will the oil run out or will it just be the little amount inside the oilcooler-element that will be lost

I was hoping to see a response to the last comment as this seems to be a really important area to get right judging by previous postings! Richard
