I now have the coupe gauges in and need to locate an oil gauge pressure sender. Where can they be bought and/or what are the specs so I can try to source one locally(New Zealand). Also while I am sourcing the thread and diameter so I can locate fittings to "T" into my saloon on off oil pressure aperature.
Regards

I thought the take off was already there in the pump cover ? Surely they didnt mess about with tee pieces at the factory. I have got a sender from an SD1 which I am sure will do the job. Its used, but it works OK, and I will post it to you if you are happy to pay the postage. I would try it out myself, but my engine is in bits at the moment

Thanks Smallfry ;Dthat would be great. ;D But no apparently the saloon doesn’t have the take off for the gauge sender only the on off oil light but to be honest I haven't looked yet only going on what I have been told. I will look this weekend. If you send me an email I will send you a postal address or you could post to box number of my business that info is here www.autojobs.co.nz/contact.htm my email is on that site too let me know postage and a method of payment might be a problem unless you take visa/paypal or want to wait for a cheque (it will clear) I could investigate a money order but have never done that but it can't be hard If any one can confirm an SD1 sender is OK I am sure I could locate that here. ;D Not that I don't appreciate your kind offer but it might be difficult to facilitate Regards Allan

???There is no sender take off on saloons as far as I am aware. If buying secondhand beware as they rae likely to be scrap as there must be a rubber diaphragm in them which perishes

Where does the oil sender for the gauge connect on a coupe? If I wanted to connect it as in a coupe what would I have to buy and replace? Is there any reason the T off the dash light pressure switch will not work? What are the specs for the sender? Will an SD1 sender work with the p5 gauge? ???They should be available here in New Zealand. ;D Regards Allan

I have used a T piece on the P5B engine for a number of different oil gauges both Mechanical (which are the best) and the electrical type and they all work well. I used one electrical one once from a VW Golf with the 52mm VDO gauge with matching sender. As these V8's run on low pressure even the high of 45Lbs is just under half way so the unmarked Rover "Jaeger" scale is sensible. Try an SD1 sender it may work.
The electrical gauge has to be matched to the sender but on my Coupe (six) I have replaced the insides of the gauge with the mechanical Smiths type which fits and looks exactly the same - no sender or wiring is required (except for the light) just a nylon tube to the take-off point. These gauges were used on no end of cars eg Mini's

The reason I offered it is because it looks exactly the same as the one I have got off my old coupe(which is no good)
As a thought, the early Range Rover had a similar electrical gauge and sender. Maybe one of those would be easier to get hold of in NZ ?

Thanks Smallfry. I will do some checking with the rover people here. Your offer was apreciated just seemed a bit hard for such a simple part that must exist over here if I can establish what I need. But I have a few clues now so it sould be OK
