I have two one without the fibre wiper on the point and one with. obviously the mounting plates and vacuum units are different, which one is the correct one for a 1969 is there any difference in reliability/performance between the two?

Yours should have the earlier type which is not as reliable when worn as the dwell cannot be set properly. Also the points are more expensive.
If you have the later one then fit this as they are fully interchangeable

Thanks Phil the clean one on the car is the early type! "sods law dictated that" is it still possible to get the Vacuum units for the later type as it needs one if I fit it, do you know the part number I can't read it on the vacuum unit.

I think parts are easier for the later one and fairly certain Wadhams do them - although they look differernt I think they may be interchangable anyway. I will look at mine to see if the part number is visible - I have one later type dizzy and several old types

The later type of vac unit with the offset vac exhaust has 2 rows of numbers: 5 16 5 5442 4749
I cannot see any numbers on the early type with the central take-off and are they are interchangeable (I have done this) although I do not know whether the amount of advance is the same but in most casesthe plate inside the dizzy determines this precisely

New type dizzy now fitted a few problems if you want to swap bits between a 69 and a 73 the three base plate holes are slightly different in the fact that only 2 line up also the vacuum unit mounting holes are spaced further apart on the 73. I also picked the best shaft which was the 69 but there was not enough clearance when the worm gear was fitted and it was too stiff, I got over this by taking enough off the gear on a lathe untill it ran smoothly.
