I have two fans one with straight blades the other with curved blades is this one a later design to move more air through the radiator and over the engine? or did the HULK catch his fingers in it?

The curved balade one is the earlier type which is appraently more prone to stress fractures

Thanks Phil I will put that one on the shelf if there may be a problem if I use it! the construction seems solid so is the stress due to the extra load due to the volume of air moved?

I have used both without trouble! It was probably down to cost savings by the already bankrupt BL combine

the curved blades fan for the V8 was the subject of a technical bulletin from Rover in 1970 which stated that it had to be replaced immediately by the straight blades one for safety reasons. Apparently it happened several times that the curved blades unrivetted from the hub, flying either through the bonnet, either in the engineer's face or into the owner's face. I don't think that all the foremen read that bulletin according to all the curved blades fans still on cars.I have not heard of anyone being injuried by that curvaceous piece of technology; anyway the curved blades are noisier than the straight ones.

I understand the fan tips were curved to reduce noise - although I think it makes no difference whatsoever.
