Having put in a replacement steering box and then to find out it leaks more then the previous one I decided to dig deep and buy a reconditioned unit from JRW. Until the box is put under pressure it is hard to tell whether it would leak or not as it was dry when removed from a long standing non-runner. To be honest it appears that you have to be very lucky to find one that won't leak as they appear to of had a design fault? Anyway, peace of mind prevails and the old girl is up for M.O.T this week.

Good luck with the M.O.T Glenn I understand the leak problem I have one from the back of the box the shaft is dry! I will have to take it off and have a look or have my spare one pressure tested before fitting!

Seems like I'm in the same boat as you. Just replaced the high pressure hose then found a leak from the box got a second hand spare to try but as you say you don't no if they leak until fitted and tried. If that doesn't work Ive got to follow the same path and buy a recon unit. I do believe that the JRW one's have a mod to stop the leak so if that is so you shouldn't have any more problems. I got to get mine sorted this week as i have still got to get it mot'd and ready for the national, oh and its been off the road for over a year so just had to free the brakes off. lets hope it stops there Got luck with the mot
