I have an idea that might save the club some money and improve the service to the members that go along with it. Why not offer the choice to the membership to receive the club magazine in electronic format? Perhaps PDF. All you would need would be an email address. * Save money on printing * Save money on postage * Save time on stuffing the things in envelopes * Remove overseas costs for members who participate The incentive for the members that do it could be: * 100% colour photos throughout the mag * Possibly reduced membership costs * Extras not in the paper mag such as more pictures? What do you think? Roy member 1852

I think (in principle) that would be an excellent idea but I actually enjoy receiving the magazine rather then printing it off or reading it of my monitor, but that's just my opinion. I also feel the membership fee is fair. It would be nice to hear other views on the subject.

Personally i look forward in receiving the magazine through the post.
For more pictures etc it needs more input from the members and also articles on modifications, tips etc just like some of the threads that are written on this site. what i do not like reading about in the magazine is the re printed articles from this site.
I also think that the club is fairly cash rich and could include more in the mag if they got more. so come on guys put pen to paper and start snapping. Big Kev.

I too would much rather recieve the magazine by post. I suppose I have a rose tinted traditional view Remember that the vast majority of members do not seem to be interested in this forum.........if they are, they never seem to participate, unless there really are only about a dozen members ? Maybe they do not have access to a PC or the internet ? As an aside, like Big Kev, I do not really want to see the magazine padded out with the contents of this forum either, but I am no less guilty than anyone else in making any contribution. I always feel that others would not be interested in my motoring problems/disasters/triumphs, and also that any "enlightening" discoveries would be old news, and not wishing to bore anyone....etc etc. What do others want to see or find interesting ? My Rover forlornly sitting in the garage with nothing happening is hardly rivetting (but not for MOTpurposes) reading.

I think Roy's idea is before its time, for many of the reasons already articulated above. But one day.....
However, I think there is room for occasional short email bulletins which are more "newsy" or topical featuring items that would not be included in Take five because of printing schedules, eg a TV programme featuring P5s, also members advertisements, announcements, events etc. I know that some of these appear on the website but most members access this infrequently.

Lets not forget we are only 5 peoples opinions. If the question were put to the membership through the magazine there might be sufficient interest to warrant it. As far as I know it costs nothing to put it into PDF or word format and email it so therefore every single person that receives the mag that way will save the club a years postage and printing costs.
Thinking about it you could even store it on a server somewhere and have members log in to retrieve it or view it. Again it might be of interest to some members who don't want to clog up their pc or maybe view it from abroad (like on holiday!) A self service club for those who want it..
This might appeal to younger members of the club but also older members who would benefit from being able to view it larger than 100% which is easier on the eye!
I've been a member since the late 80's and I'm sure a decent propertion of my loft has club magazines in it! Its a lot to store over time.
Hopefully the 'club' will consider it purely as an alternative without dismissing it out of hand. Roy

Having just "read" the latest magazine i think my comments regarding it's content are justified. I personally think this magazine is the poorest Ive ever read, and whats all that about on the editors page? The Gus Ellis pictures are good ,because my cars in one of them. Sorry to moan on about the mag and i appreciate the hard work that goes into the publication but some of you out there must have articles to help fill it out a bit. (and yes, i have written articles myself before) Big Kev.

Just a thought. Why not give those members that will accept an electronic version of Take Five at a slightly reduced membership fee. The actual overall saving could be shared by the relevent members and also the club itself. It would require a fine balance I know as the reduced numbers of hard copies may increase the actual printing/publication cost pro-rata. I also appreciate that it may be labour intensive to kick-start.
