Thanks for your thoughts about the seepage John, it's good to have another set of ideas on this problem. I have finished the back end now and all went back ok with a resleeved wheel cylinder from Past Parts on the rear n/s. The post office are still looking for the original cylinder which was "lost in the post" between Plymouth and Bury St Edmunds I think that the rear hub bearing would be unaffected by oil seepage unless the loss of oil was very severe due to total failure of the seal. In my view the oil would pass through the clearance and out through the housing as previously described.

Perhaps your cylinder is stuck at Exeter waiting their next dispute. I was down in your area yesterday Richard doing a Recovery to the Hyde Park area. (Turned out he has an A35 awaiting restoration) Coming back from Evans Halshaw the Vauxhall dealers just past a large roundabout, I saw a shop called 'Nuts and Bolts' in Exeter Street. I just wondered if you new it existed or not? Could be useful for the unf fixings etc.

Hi John, thanks for that. Yes, I was aware of that shop but I have found many other sources since my original posting and there are a number of suppliers on good old EBAY as well As for my cylinder, God knows where that is. I'm also getting a bit concerned about my claim for loss which was submitted a couple of weeks ago as I've heard nothing about that either! I wouldn't be surprised if the Post Office had lost that as well! I was lucky that Past Parts happened to have an old N/S cylinder in stock which they rebuilt for me at about the same amount as the original quote. It wasn't in quite so good a condition bodily as my original and had a bit of play in the handbrake rebates but it should be ok.
