Hi All Possible looking at a 3.5 coupe tomorrow but just wants a bit of advise first. When i spoke to the currant owner he has informed me that the car has been standing for 10 years in his garage. The engine runs and he has freed off the brakes, but he said the gearbox was slipping but was getting better as it warms up Is this likely to be a case of: lack of use or the start of a big problem? Some quick advise would be great Thanks Barry

Hi Barry,
As a quick reply - I'd budget a box rebuild to be on the safe side (they are easy enough to get out) just bl**dy heavy!
It could just be that the bands need adjusting - I don't know the BW box too well, but the torqueflite in the Jensen can be adjusted easily with the g/box pan off..
Moisture will kill a stood auto 'box - depends on whether its been started and used in that 10 yrs...
Good luck and give me a shout if you need any assistance.
Steve.

Hi Steve,
i don't think the fluid would have been changed as he did say anything.
Off the subject abit, are you still ok for tomorrow morning?
Barry

Barry,
Yep still ok for Tomorrow - 10:30am ish.
Ref: the box, the old fluid (it will stink if its old) will not be doing it any favours - but if it is knackered; budget 4-500 quid for a replacement - and barter accordingly. It is fairly simple job to do; I swapped the auto for a manual box in a Rover V8 powered Ford Zodiac I had a few years ago, the swap was done in day or so.
Cheers,
Steve.

If you need a BW35 (or 65) auto box rebuilt I can put you in touch with someone who's been doing them for years, if you want more details send me a private message If you post more details of the problem, I can probably give you a good idea of what the fault is.

Hi Barry back off holls! if the oil is brown and dirty looking and stinks ("if it's a red fluid could be green?") the bands have been slipping and all that crap will be somewhere in the box as Steve says build it in the price! Good Luck.

Thanks guys Well i looked at the car and it wasnt only the gearbox that shocked me. It started is life as green but has been painted brown with a cream roof, brown house carpet with cloth seat Its got the base to be a good car but needs to much for me to take it on. John ill send you the details of the machine if you are still interested?
