Hi all, I was driving the car around a couple of weeks ago and I noticed the oil pressure dropped right down the guage. I drove the half mile home and no probs, no oil pressure light came on (I know they're not that reliable) I started it up today to move it out of the garage and the pressure was fine but when I put her back in again the guage was not reading hardly at all. Any ideas???

Hi Glenn looking at the diagram there are two different circuits the bulb warning light is a switch to earth so no pressure the switch makes bulb lights! on the guage side it has another sender which is a variable resistive one to the guage so depending on the pressure the voltage will vary and the guage will move so if your light is out we can assume you have pressure and either you have a duff sender/guage or a high resistance from the sender to the guage i.e. grotty connection/terminal or low voltage to the +ve side of the guage. Just to be sure put a pressure tester on it!

If you do SEARCH you will get more tips - but its best to convert to the more accurate and reliable bourdon tube type before stripping the engine down!

Many thanks guys. When I put the accelerator down the guage rises rapidly but I will take your advice on board.

I found the sender units, one for the dashboard and the other for the guage. The sender unit for the guage seems to have two spade connectors(male) coming out of it but is connected by one female connector. Is that right or should there be two wires to the unit?? It was getting dark so I may of made a mistake on what I felt I saw.

Only one is needed - if you look carefully they are both common for some reason, unless you have the type with the electric fuel pump cut-off?
