I picked up this interesting piece of information in another thread (posted there by Glenn and Phil) and thought it worth its own place in case someone might look for it in future: the oil for the dampers in the carburettors is SU Damper Oil (125ml), SAE 20, Part No: BDR125S, Price:£3.50 from Burlen Fuel Systems www.burlen.co.uk/Question 1: one of the motor factors I go to now told me any thin oil could be used and put 3-in-1 in front of me. Does anyone know whether that is correct? Question 2: what is the best way to drain the oil that is in there now and clean out the chambers before refilling them? I thought while the engine is still out of the car I might as well replace the damper oil?! Peter

Three in one is far too thin and contains horrible additives that will gum it up - thick shock absorber oil or ATF is far better. You need a SAE 20 but no thicker.
Remove the dashpots (three screws each) and lift out pistons. Clean all in parafin. Absolutley NO abrasives

Thanks Phil
I am going to pick up an oil filter there this afternoon and will hit them over the head with their xxxx 3-in-1
