Well done Dave, and good luck to you. My son and I bought a P5B each in October. Not from E bay but from The Club for sale board. I bought an Arden green one that had stood on blocks in a garage for the last 10 years. The guy had owned it since 83. It had stood outside for the last year, and it had no battery, and looked in a sorry state. However, I fell in love with it and had it trailered home. The owner said the rad was kaput, the exhaust was blowing, it needed a good sort out ! etc etc., I was happy with the price I paid. I've spent the last few weeks outside stripping the carbs which were totally seized, finding and fitting a new rad, fitting new everything virtually on the top side of the engine and lots more. Last Monday I put a fresh battery on it which I nearly flattened trying to start it, and after a load of gunge blew out of the back it fired and ran !! Lovely moment I can tell you. I ran it till warm, and it was excellent. I was really pleased. Still a bit to do, but I don't regret my purchase one bit !! I drove it 5 miles up the road and everything functioned OK. I'm moving on to phase 2 now. Very good luck to you Dave, you won't regret it, Regards, Mike in Norwich.

I have seen a lot worse too, but there is a lot there to keep you amused for hours !
Dont expect too much, and then everything is a bonus !
Don't lose those sill trims.....there does not look like there is much sill holding them up. Looks like you will be wanting inner and outer sill at the very least before it goes on the road. Concentrate on the brakes over the engine etc, but make sure it has plenty of anti freeze in it over the winter.
Good luck.

There are loads of ways to improve it to make life easier but its best to get it running and the bodywork tidied up. Certainly an electric pump will be more reliable than the existing mechanical but as to electronic ignition and cooling fan I would not bother as a need for both of these should not be required in normal use until all faults have been sorted like worn water pump/silted up rad/perished carbon plug leads/worn points/plugs/condensor. Change all fuild and oils though and keep the oil fresh by changing it and filter every 3000 miles or 18 months.
I am sure you will enjoy it but the cost of it will be but a small part of what you will end up spending although it looks as if it could be rolling restoration (ie one that never gets fully finished like the Forth Bridge painting)
Good luk anyway.
I suggest also to join the club and have a good read of all the topics on here and use SEARCH set for 600 days as virtually everthing that could arise must have been covered at once now!

Hi guys, when you tell dave " I've seen a lot worse " your talking about me aren't you?.... Dave, mate I'm in the same boat as you ( see "collected fat bird" in p5b general forum. ) I picked her up today and remember those blind dates we all went on with our friend's, girlfriend's best mate, who had quote " a nice personality", well 9 out of 10 times she was a right munter !! But once in a while you would hook up with a babe in dogs clothing ( I might copyright that ) I mean a stunner that would ,with the right encouragement fly you to the moon , Prime example: Olive from " On the buses" .Munter ? No. Underneath all them stupid glasses , greasy hair and all that she was a Babe, done stripping an everyfing '. Well, that's MY P5 coupe, originally named Rita but now forever known as Olive. You've got to look past the blemishes and remember that even though they're old , these girls , when you tart them up and press the right buttons, look and sound sooooooo goood!!! regards ScarlettWill

That custom P5B in the Steet Machine magazine was the car that got me hooked on the P5, It was blue and had recessed handles if I remember amongst other things! pined for one ever since and finally got one last year ! The pleasure it give is unbelivable.
Good luck and happy motoring !
