I have spent all weekend trying to work out why my left hand carb piston will not fall back down after the revs drop, the right hand one does, they have the exact amount of oil in the dash pots new jets and needles. If I unscrew the dampener and re-screw it back down the piston drops back and the car idles as it should until I rev it again and the same problem occures. I have centered the jets undone all linkages. Has anyone got any idea what it might be. Many thanks Sean.

Try swapping the dampers between the carbs and see if the problem is with the damper (it may have got bent) or the carb itself.

The pistons temselves and the insides of the dashpots can get gummed up by stale fuel and oil fumes. Carb cleaner (or Celly thinners) get rid followed by a light oil - strictty no abrasives though.
You have got the slinky springs in of course?
