I have just got my 1973 saloon back on the road after some mechanical work and an MOT, and I am sure the exhaust is noiser and more waffly than I remember. It is a steel system and I am assured it is not holed. Could it be the internal baffles, or ahould I be looking at the manifold. The noise is not apparent until you open a window!

Mild steel exhausts go almost anywhere at anytime, hidden spots are between the 2 downpipes, the top of the pipe over the axle and the at the rear silencer underneath.
The baffles do not usually go before the rest.
Manifold leaks are possible either at the pipe joints or the head - this make a chuffing or a cracking noise .
Mild steel exhausts are very quiet unlike SS
