The 3.5 V8 manual advises the use of 3M EC377 thread lubricant to assemble V8, especially cylinder head bolts. Does anyone know where to get some? -- or an equivalent? Thanks

Try Land Rover dealers, they still work on V8's and SHOULD be using it or something similar. Without it head bolts will snap in the block when you try to remove them after any length of time.(I speak from bitter experience, having removed the heads from an engine that had been assembled without it in the past.)

I've just looked at mine (ooh err missus) it was L/R part no. 608591 (about 20 years ago) and it's 3M ScotchClad "776" Fuel Resistant Coating & Adhesive. 1 litre tin.
All the technical specifications for the above are still on the 3M website, so it should still be available, or at the very least 3M should know of another suitable product.

"776" is the 3M ref. and is as I said earlier still listed on their website. I would buy the correct sealant, copper grease dries out and although it may keep bolts free initially I wouldn't use it, particularly on the head bolts. If a job's worth doing it's worth doing properly, and although it will be expensive it's a lot cheaper than removing snapped bolts.
