Hi all how will i know what size big end and main berrings i will need for my 1973 p5b engine the numbers on the berrings are big end 5051 and 610870 main 5052 and 610865

They are probably standard so Wadhams and the like shouyld supply.
However by the looks of what else you are saying about this engine, I would not bother and either have reconditioned or look for a better one as they new bearing will not last long and the bores/camshaft are most likley very worn

Hi the engine that is in bad shape is the range rover engine the engine i want the berrings for is my p5b engine that is clean in side and out with the top end rebuilt the berrings have got a slight bit of copper showing it has done 78000 miles so hope it will be ok with new berrings

The best way is to take it to an engine reconditioner and let them measure the journals. They will be able to supply new shells to fit or advise a regrind.
