I would take them out together vince I know it can be done both ways there are a few more items to remove taking them out together but it will save a few risks trying to line up the two in the car if you do a search I am sure you will find some info Good Luck.

Finding that the gearbox seal has been broken when lining up the engine is just not funny.

Vince, you may recall that I took the engine out of my car back in Feb and Decided to leave the gearbox in place.
Bad move!
I am now dealing with the aftermath of that and have the gearbox out having damaged the seal when putting the engine back in. As the box is out I have decided on a rebuild. in fact having discovered that its an early box I'm going to get a later one rebuilt but that's another story.
For what its worth I would highly recommend removing both. Even if you have to remove them seprately but they should b mated up out of the car and reinstalled as a unit.
I didn't and I regret it!

A lot of good advice given vince on the problems that can happen on my other coupe I had in 1970 ish I tried to change the gearbox alone and it was a pain to do on my own I ended up dropping the sub frame and lifting the body that way I could manage on my own

I have always removed mine as one unit - its far easier in the end especially on your own.
Use SEARCH for 500 days
