Sounds like the well-known supplier should check the work coming from this engineer that he is so reluctant to offend, before he sends it out to the recipient. This is the trouble with using a middleman to get work done. Apart from the increased cost, you have two parties to deal with when it comes to faulty workmanship. And the pictures do show a bit of a pigs breakfast to say the least. Insult on top of injury if this is the second time the box has emerged from this particular workshop. If the supplier is more scared of offending the engineer than the customers, then word of mouth should ensure that not too many more orders are placed with them.

Name and shame the supplier. All the time they are getting away with it they will keep on selling crap stuff.
What sort of businessman is afraid to upset his supplier ? He is their customer, and their poor workmanship reflects on his business.
If you are that upset, I trust you will NOT be buying ANYTHING else from them ?

After my experiences with "well known suppliers" I won't use the two main ones unless I have absolutely no other way of dealing with a fault. Fortunately for us, they don't hold all the cards anymore

The problem with "well known suppliers" thinking well they will come to me regardless of my attitude because "I have the what they want" doesn't work because of forums like this one perhaps we should have a customer satisfaction list

I got the box from Wadhams. After careful consideration I have now decided to cut any business dealing with him, by hook or by crook I will find alternative sources. I have even supplied him with parts so he knows me well, as I am sure some of you do, through business, I have done with you via this forum. I am angry and somewhat sad it has come to this.

So he wasn't afraid of offending you then? Well, another nail in the coffin there, methinks. These forums can only help to expose this type of shoddy workmanship as well as the poor attitute to customer relations/satisfaction. They do it very quickly too. I can't see that the price of one job is going to compensate for the loss of future business that will result from episodes like this.

It is a good product as I said Glenn I have used it many times but 3 threads to hold the Rocker Shaft bearing in mind the stresses is not exactly good engineering practice I like the "it may have been dropped in the post" for sure it would have been so by that comment it is unsafe to post a steering box ;D they may leak but they are solid or they should be I wonder how high you would have to drop a parcel bearing in mind the box was on it's side to strip a good rocker shaft thread I hope JRW's guy hasn't worked on any airplane's I am flying on

That sounds like a typical JRW "throwaway" remark, I had plenty of them when trying to sort out a refund for the c**p numberplate backing plate he sent me. I eventually got a refund from Royal Mail as he always denied having received it. Denial of receipt for unsuitable items on which they have to give a refund is always the weapon of last resort for some traders and the customer is always the loser as ordinary post cannot be guaranteed and they know it .

Dropping an item fitted with a 'Helicoil' insert woudn't make the coil fall out. If done correctly to aircraft standards, they would be 'wet' assembled. Only if the original hole had been enlarged too much to get the coil in would there be a problem.

I have never seen anything like this before This is making me think who i now get my parts from. I have just got a steering box done myself but have yet to fit it but it looks very well done and cheeper then ....*r* Oh and if it helps anyone its the same as David Greens so i think his the new man to talk to about these if you need one

I have purposefully kept quiet on all the rumblings against JRW as I was waiting the outcome of a faulty dizzy cap. This morning I received a letter of apology with a credit refund on my card, for the delay in replying to my letter and the faulty cap which was returned to him. So I will buck the trend and thank him for his attention to my letter, which just explained the facts that the cap was totally crazed inside and the main lead housing on top was also cracked. This was after just 400 miles of rather frightening motoring (sometimes at a max speed of 15mph on the motorway). All I wanted was to make sure that it wasn't part of a faulty batch thereby saving others from the same fate.
