Hi,
New to the club and was just wondering if someone could help me. Recently inherited a Rover P5 and unfortunately a silly mechanic has previously snapped the bonnet release cable.
This is rather annoying as now i cannot access the engine (which yes wont start).
If anyone could shed some light on any release solutions it would be much appreciated.
Thanks Alix

Try a metal coat hanger? Bend it at the end to make a tight hook. Go through the front grille to hook it onto the release mechanism. I really need to look at my car to see where this/if can be done. If you want some clue as to where this is I can send you some photo's. It might be worth getting someone to lean on the bonnet to take the pressure of the release mechanism as you do it. If it has broke at the interior T handle can you not use a pair of mole grips?

Thanks for the quick reply.
Exactly along the lines of which i was thinking. Just have not got round to attempting it yet as there is about half a foot between the front of the car and the garage wall and the brakes solid so there is no moving it. All part of the challenge i guess.

Can you trolley jack the rear axle so the wheels are off the ground slightly? Then you push at the front whilst a good mate of yours pulls!!

Rather than a coathanger I think you stand more chance with a screwdiver. The plate is on the underside of the slam panel and you should be able to get to itthrough the grille. Suggest you get someone to press down on the bonnet at the same time to reduce the force needed.

Thanks everyone, you have re-enforced my previous thoughts. Its a bit like the MGB catch so shouldnt be to much of a problem for me.
