Hi is anyone out there able to help me!! I own a 68 p5b coupe, It belonged to my father who sadly passed away in 2001. The rover had been sat in a garage for 5 years before his death, and i only got her out 2 months ago. I was quite surprised she is not in bad condition, and after a good wash and clean fuel and oil she fired up and runs lovely. BUT there is a problem, as soon as i put water in her she throws it back out quick. It seems to becoming from under the car, just in front of the gearbox fly wheel. I have not asked a garage to come and look at her, because iam sure when they do they could be filling me a load of rubbish. So i thought i would ask you guys if you have any idea. Any help would be great. ;D ;D Thanks Very much Gareth.

These cars have water pipes at the rear of the engine, going under the floor to a heater under the rear seat. It may be that a heater hose has perished and burst so it would be worth careful examination to seeif it could be that.

You could have a core plug blown out of the engine block gareth or the metal pipe that runs under the inlet manifold is corroded or the rubber one that connects to it or the core plug under the inlet manifold even there are a few scenarios none of them toooooooooo serious

I had water blow out in the same place. You can get new hoses from www.jrwadhams.co.ukDont forget to refill with antifreeze. You can just blank the pipes off at the top if it is a fair weather car.

No gareth you can fit them with the engine in the car not too difficult you may have to remove the offending side exhaust manifold fo ease of access if it is under the inlet manifold that will have to come off with carbs etc Lets hope it's a simple hose problem good luck

Gareth, now the water is gone, it would be a good time to check the air vent on top of the thermostat housing. The little tube from the radiator has to be taken off and the connection needs to be drilled out as it is often blocked with rust. Dont forget the antifreeze after you have tested the system as the ally engine can be damaged internally. A few top ups will be needed before the level settles down.
